Here's Mulan, continuing off my Disney Fashion Revamps! I tried incorporating aspects of the traditional Qi Pao and Han fu. As a result, it didn't turn out very modern at all, but I think I'm ok with that!
I went with this composition mostly to show the 'reflection' theme, but also because I couldn't choose between the color schemes! The pink was probably more iconic, but she always seemed more in character with the green… Out of curiosity, which one do you guys like more?
Also, points for those who spotted the chinese characters on the dress! As some of you may know, the original legend of Mulan was passed down from a centuries old chinese poem/ ballad. I wanted to include that somehow, so if you look at the 'fanned out' part of the dress, you'd see parts of the poem I wrote down! ^.^ (along with some other random ramblings) xD and umm.. ahaha… sorry..my mandarin penmanship is actually quite awful... :T
Just wanted to let you know I featured this work in my journal because of how much I love it! [link] Thanks for creating such wonderful stuff and keep up the great work!
I'd say the iconic pink dress was too much of a dress up for it to be really mulans. I mean, they do make a point out of her not feeling like herself when she's like that. I think another deviant shoomlah put it quite nicely when she said about her final green costume "she never seemed at home in either the matchmaker costume or the armor, so this seemed like the best "Mulan has come into her own" middle ground. The pink one is still beautiful though.
